META-Z (Active zinc oxide/rubber vulcanisation accelerator)
Zinc oxide (ZnO) is generally an essential compounding agent used in rubber as a vulcanisation accelerator.
During the vulcanisation process, zinc oxide reacts with acidic substances such as stearic acid and accelerators in rubber to activate sulphur, immobilising the H2S produced during the vulcanisation reaction, thereby enhancing the vulcanisation accelerator effect.
The reaction between zinc oxide and stearic acid in rubber occurs on the surface of the zinc oxide particles, so the vulcanisation-promoting effect is determined by the surface activity, specific surface area and dispersibility of the zinc oxide.
Features of META-Z
The META-Z series is an active zinc oxide produced by wet synthesis.
Compared to ordinary zinc oxide, it is characterised by its fine particles and large non-surface area, and therefore has a high vulcanisation-promoting effect.
Two types of vulcanisation accelerators for rubber are available: the composite active zinc oxide META-Z L series and the active zinc oxide META-Z 102.
Grades of META-Z
[Composite active zinc oxide META-Z L series]

The META-Z L Series has a structure in which precipitated calcium carbonate is selected for the body as a carrier into the rubber and the particle surface is coated with active zinc oxide.
Although the zinc oxide ratio is reduced by compounding with calcium carbonate, the high vulcanisation-promoting effect of the active zinc oxide on the surface gives equivalent rubber properties with an equal amount of general zinc oxide replacement.

Features of the META-Z L series
〇 Composite type active zinc oxide
〇 Cost advantages
〇 Low specific gravity
〇 Low heavy metal content
[Active zinc oxide META-Z 102]
META-Z 102 is an active zinc oxide. It has a smaller particle size and a larger specific surface area than ordinary zinc oxide, and so has an extremely high degree of activity.
Therefore, it is highly effective in increasing the cross-linking density in rubber, and the same rubber properties can be obtained with a smaller proportion of zinc oxide.
Furthermore, better rubber properties can be obtained by substituting equal amounts, especially improvements in tensile strength and compression set (C.set) can be expected.
Features of active zinc oxide META-Z 102

〇 Fine particles with large specific surface area
〇 Highly effective in accelerating vulcanisation (increased cross-link density)
〇 Improved rubber properties such as tensile strength and compression set
〇 Low heavy metal content
