What is ISO?
ISO is an abbreviation for the International Organisation for Standardisation, a private organisation that establishes common standards and norms worldwide. Its headquarters is located in Geneva, Switzerland. ISO standards is also the generic name for the standardisation standards developed by the Organisation.
It was founded in 1947 with the aim of "developing worldwide standardisation and related activities to facilitate the international exchange of materials and services and to foster cooperation in intellectual, scientific, technical and economic fields of activity". The full membership is made up of more than 140 countries, with JISC (Japanese Industrial Standards Council) as a member from Japan. The accreditation body in Japan is the Japan Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment (JAB).

ISO 9001 is a Quality Management System (QMS), which defines an organisation's policy for providing quality and services to its customers, and a system for continuously improving the system in order to provide these services.

ISO 14001 is an Environmental Management System (EMS), made to continuously improve the environmental performance of an organisation by reducing the environmental impact of its activities, products and services.
